Ancestry DNA And British Airways Team Up To Meet People Their Family Members

On National Sisters’ Day, we share hands with British Airways to unite two sisters from Texas, for the first time, in the United Kingdom. Mandy Shore was born in the UK during World War II and was cared by her adoptive parents. When she started searching her family tree, Mandy discovered that her mother was a single woman who lived near the American Air Force base and her father remained a mystery for many years. Ancestry DNA helped her search and discover their family tree using a DNA test.

The Ancestry DNA database revealed that Mandy had two half-sisters by her father’s side, living in Texas, America. In an email, Ann Burrage and Lynn Garner helped Mandy to complete the puzzle. Her father might be an American G.I., and after the end of the war, he moved to Texas and married and had two daughters without Mandy's information.

Understanding the price of family ties, Ancestry DNA and British Airways came together to provide flights to Ann and Lynn to meet her newly discovered sister in Britain, and the three sisters met with each other and the wonderful moment was captured in the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch'v=EIyHlToWayo

If you also want to discover your family tree after seeing the story of these long-lost sisters. In that case, British Airways is offering the chance to search the rich history of the United Kingdom with an opportunity to win one round out of three round trip tickets to London with accommodation for four nights.

If you want to give other families a chance to make a trip of a lifetime, Ancestry DNA and British Airways had launched a social media lottery where three people will get a chance to win a pair of roundtrip Club World tickets on British Airways with complete four nights at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel.

Note: There are three different entry periods, like August 4- August 26, 27 August- September 11, and 12 September and 30 September and one winner will be selected for each entry period.

Ancestry DNA reunites siblings

Dale Frye had grown up knowing his half-sisters in California, 20 years before he was born. Dale Frye took an Ancestry DNA test in search of his sister. At the start, there were no close connections, and he started to lose hope. After a year, Dale Frye received a message from a woman named Terry living in California and was excited to know how closely they are related. Dale’s wife Polly and Terry started to position the pieces together, and they realized that this was going to be a surprise for Gloria Molner, Terry’s mother.

Gloria was an only child and brought up by her mother and a man that she thought was her biological father. After hearing the story, we decided to fly Polly and Dale to meet Gloria and her children, Wayne and Terry. It was an emotional moment for all. Gloria Molner says, we have got a big family now, and we'll stick together. I feel blessed to be a part of Gloria and Dale’s reunion and excited to see the bonding between them and the rest of the family.

Ancestry updated Lifestory

Ancestry introduced Lifestory last year to better understand what your ancestor’s lives were like. The self-generated Lifestory has a lot of heavy lifting when translating information, facts, and dates into a narrative of someone’s life, but it shines when you make it your own. At starting, you have complete control of all the narrative snippets and have the ability to select which Historical Insights you want to save and improve your ancestor’s story with photos.

The result has been a very fast and intuitive way to show the rich tapestry of our ancestor’s lives. Some members have shared that they would choose to jump straight into writing their own stories without auto-generated Lifestory. To allow this, we have recently added a new option for customers to each tree’s settings page that will allow us to disable or enable stories being generated for that tree.

Turn Off stories

You need to tap on your tree and go to the True Settings. Under the settings option on the tree, you will find a new or added option below your Tree Name and Description of your tree. If the option Automatically builds stories for this tree is enabled. In that case, you can turn it off on a tree by tree basis, and any custom stories you have written will be pictured, and you can create more stories for your ancestors.

If the option Automatically build stories is turned off, it will not display for anyone seeing your tree.
